Discover Gotan Project: Where Tango Meets Electronic Beats
Whenever you need a break from the everyday rush, you’ve got to check out Gotan Project. They’re absolute masters of electrotango— that creates mind-blowing music. It’s hard to put into words; you just have to listen.
I came across electrotango about ten years ago at a restaurant opening event and fell in love. But the genre actually emerged in Argentina in the early 2000s as a fusion of tango and electronic music.
The Artists Behind the Music
The trio is made up of Eduardo Makaroff (Argentina), Philippe Cohen Solal (France), and Christoph H. Müller (Switzerland), and they’re based in Paris. The moment you hit play, even just for five seconds, you’re transported to another dimension—a calmer place, yet rich with hypnotic, immersive sounds and a one-of-a-kind rhythm.
Global Recognition: Soundtracking Iconic Films
One of their most famous tracks, Santa Maria (del Buen Ayre), became globally recognized after being featured in the soundtracks of three major films: The Bourne Identity (2002), Shall We Dance? (2004), in the unforgettable tango scene with Richard Gere and Jennifer Lopez, and Knight and Day (2010). And in 2021, their song Época was featured in the Netflix blockbuster Red Notice, starring Ryan Reynolds, Dwayne Johnson, and Gal Gadot.
